“While other people carve with their hands, we (Balinese woodcarvers) carve with our hearts” - Balinese Artisan Pak Wayan

Taksu

In Bali, woodcarving is an art form practiced by talented "Taksu" awakened woodcarvers. These skilled artisans are not mere craftsmen; they are spiritual conduits, channeling the divine into their work via Taksu.

Taksu is a Balinese concept that is similar to what others may know as "flow" but with a deeper spiritual essence.

When in Taksu, artisans form a spiritual connection with the divine to get into a state of deep concentration. Tapping into a higher power, the individual experiences enhanced abilities in creativity, foresight and charisma.

In Bali, all artists, whether they are dancers, painters, or woodcarvers have daily ceremonies to awaken their Taksu and bring divine inspiration to their art.

Balinese Wood Carving Tradition

Balinese Wood Carving Tradition

Bali, often called the island of the Gods, is renowned for its rich culture and traditions. Among these, woodcarving holds a special place. It started from temple architecture sculpting and these intricate carvings have now become a common feature in home decor and furniture. Today, the families of the original temple woodcarvers in Bali are the talented artisans behind Kulture products.
